چکیده

Abstract Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of circuits involved in mood regulation is a novel tool that being investigated as potential treatment for some the most severe patients with disorders. At UTHealth Houston, we have had an ongoing clinical trial DBS medial forebrain bundle (MFB). Our preliminary results suggest effects alleviating depressive symptoms this very severe, refractory patient group. In presentation, will review our latest findings, and also discuss MFB on measures suicidality population. Disclosure Interest None Declared

Antidepressant-like Effects of Medial Forebrain Bundle Deep Brain Stimulation in Rats are not Associated With Accumbens Dopamine Release.

BACKGROUND Medial forebrain bundle (MFB) deep brain stimulation (DBS) is currently being investigated in patients with treatment-resistant depression. Striking features of this therapy are the large number of patients who respond to treatment and the rapid nature of the antidepressant response. OBJECTIVE To study antidepressant-like behavioral responses, changes in regional brain activity, an...

A Decade of Experience with Deep Brain Stimulation for patients with Refractory Medial Temporal Lobe epilepsy

In this study, we present long-term results from patients with medial temporal lobe (MTL) epilepsy treated with deep brain stimulation (DBS). Since 2001, 11 patients (8M) with refractory MTL epilepsy underwent MTL DBS. When unilateral DBS failed to decrease seizures by > 90%, a switch to bilateral MTL DBS was proposed. After a mean follow-up of 8.5 years (range: 67-120 months), 6/11 patients ha...

Deep Brain Stimulation of the Medial Forebrain Bundle in a Patient with Treatment-Resistant Bipolar Depression and Comorbid OCD: Acute and 12-Month Follow-Up Results

Limited but encouraging evidence exists on the efficacy of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) of the Medial Forebrain Bundle (MBF) in otherwise intractable patients with Major Depressive and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Subject and Methods: Herein, we present acute and follow-up results (up to 12-months) of the first Italian patient, a 34 year old man with a diagnosis of treatment-resistant B...

Deep brain stimulation in patients with refractory temporal lobe epilepsy.

PURPOSE This pilot study prospectively evaluated the efficacy of long-term deep brain stimulation (DBS) in medial temporal lobe (MTL) structures in patients with MTL epilepsy. METHODS Twelve consecutive patients with refractory MTL epilepsy were included in this study. The protocol included invasive video-EEG monitoring for ictal-onset localization and evaluation for subsequent stimulation of...
